One important trick here is that 2 of the rotation buttons I must face the wall to press, therefore there is no room-rotating animation to skip, and they take much longer. Yes, i realize people are going to say "Just record it to vcr", but I don't have one, nor know anyone with one, and I can't afford to buy one right now. I might see if I can borrow a friend's system to play on one and capture on the other, and see if that improves it. Toward the beginning, the audio is 4-5 seconds late, but sounds like it's the correct pitch.I'm not quite sure what's doing this, but my guess is it has to do with capturing while playing on the same machine. Especially noticable during the end sequence when Cathrine and Atrus speak, it's totally not right. Toward the end of the game it's only about 2 seconds off, but it sounds like it's stretched out - the pitches are way too deep. It records and saves fine, but even in raw avi format, the audio is.not right. Next I tried VirtualDub, with much more success. Because of this, i couldn't get out of the game without losing the file.

The software that came with my tv card (WinTV) almost worked - but every time Riven loses or gains focus the program would start it's recording over, replacing the file that was just there. Since no FRAPS-type program would work at all, i decided to get a s-video/rca cable so I can output the display through my video card and input it through my tv card at the same time. I've made some progress on getting this to record.

I didn't even think of turning on zip mode untill later, I forgot it was there. Also, I might want to map out the zip mode nodes to find out if an alternate path would be made more efficient because of that. I tried a base run this morning, and it took 18.5 minutes to run, not bad for a start i think, but I can improve in several places. I've tried FRAPS, Camtasia, Game Cam, and Easy Video Capture, and unfortunately none of them seem to work yet. I played around with trying to record some gameplay, but haven't had any luck with that yet.

I also had a problem with getting sound in movie sequences (there are 2 in the game you can't skip, including the end sequence) but figured that out as well. It took quite a while, but I found a program to limit how much cpu time it gets, without affecting gameplay. I was overheating after about 5 minutes because my CPU was running at a constant 99%. Riven is written to use all available processor power, whether it's needed or not. Well, I was having some overheating issues, but I finally figured them out last night.
